If you like the Pink Panther cartoons, then you will like this one! The Pink Panther is icy and hungry on Christmas. He’ll try anything to rep a hot meal, but nothing seems to work out for him (as usual) . There is no dialog, but I reflect this honest enhances the special. I also really treasure the songs! Its glowing humorous and savory. One drawback is the animation is alot like the other pink panther cartoons (which are fairly frail) (Think: “Yes Virgina, there is a Santa Claus”) So its a bit uncouth and only a few colours are conventional (alot of the stuff seems overly pinky/orange) . But its composed immense to search for and I adore it! And the ending is cute too! Kindly for kids or any nostalgic adults.

It was surprisingly thoughtful of MGM to release the other two Pink Panther TV Specials here on this DVD along with “A Pink Christmas”! It’s not positive from the hide or the DVD info listed that all three Pink Panther TV Specials are on this disc, but they indeed are. “A Pink Christmas” which aired on ABC Dec 7, 1978; “Olym-Pinks” which aired on ABC Feb 22, 1980; and “Pink At First Explore” which aired on ABC May 10, 1981 were all approximately 25 minutes in length. “A Pink Christmas” was adapted from a 1906 O. Henry short memoir called ‘The Cop and the Anthem’ (credited in the cartoon) and is a unbelievable ‘haves and have-nots’ type anecdote that makes a perfect adaptation to the world of the Pink Panther – it’s not an trusty re-telling, the character in the short record is trying to gain into jail so he can be warm and have food, while the Panther is on a quest for food, but he does try at one point to earn into a jail. “Olym-Pinks” capitalized on the 1980 Winter Olympics that were held in Lake Placid, Current York that year, and is a series of very competitive olympic games played between Panther and the ‘little man’ (as the animators referred to him) . And “Pink At First Seek”, although aired in May of ‘81, is essentially a Valentine’s Day yarn. The studio could easily have only released the Christmas special and charged the same amount, but they mature some foresight and gave we ‘completists’ a bonus with the other two TV Specials. While not having the ‘classic-ness’ (for lack of a better word) of the 1960s Panther cartoons, the specials are fun, and clearly the Christmas special is the highlight of the DVD and easily worth the ticket in and of itself. I remember when it first aired (I was 9) and it didn’t really expose all that often over the years. And as a fan of animation, it’s cold to actually have it on DVD after nearly 30 years.

NONE of the episodes on the Season 5 location are on the Season 1&2 or Season 3&4 DVD sets. I now believe seasons 1-5 on DVD, and I can attest that these episodes are NOT duplicates of other sets.

While most SBTB websites only have 4 seasons in their episode lists, it seems that there is inconsistency as to how the episodes are listed, and how they are divided into seasons.

Two episodes missing from this list (80: Screech’s Birthday, and 84: Slater’s Friend) were on disc 3 of the Season ONE DVDs.

So, this Season 5 region does NOT have the same episodes as in other sets. Any proper fan of the display can view over those episode titles, and will remember at least some of them (like “Teen Line”) and witness that they are NOT in the sets for Seasons 1 through 4.

While Cody gets an A+ for danger, the episode that he refers to in his review is not a senior class roam, but simply a “class wobble.” It is the first episode on the first disc from Season 3.

Overall, I was extremely elated with the prove of the DVD case as well as the organization of episodes. There’s actually a featurette included on the dvd’s discussing how this crazy teen’s tv exhibit came onto the cloak and why it was so successful.

Also, this 3 disc residence features the very last “unique” saved by the bell episodes, including graduation. It was dusky to explore the present go, but at least I have this awesome season 5 dvd region that I can contemplate over and over whenever I want. I will, without a doubt, recommend this to another.

Wow. I first saw Princess Mononoke during its diminutive theatrical release (twice) . Many people have issues with the dub, but this is by far the best dubbed anime ever to be released — I, like most anime fans, normally instruct on subtitles, but Neil Gaiman and the cast succeeded in putting sincere emotion into these characters. The casting of Billy Bob Thornton and Claire Danes might rub some ears the noxious diagram, but in my view the emotional impact is mild there regardless of the outlandish accents. In any case, the Japanese track is included, and it’s phenomenal. As for its scream, most arguments about its violence and length can be dismissed by viewing it as a film, rather than as a cartoon. It’s not Disney. The position is a complex and gorgeous exhaust in shades of gray. Don’t quiz Akira or Macross either — it’s really not of the same genre.

The video and audio quality is the sort that you would employ to reveal off your unique home theater system. In fact, I found the Japanese soundtrack to be richer and better dynamically balanced than the English track (!) . Disney/Miramax really took advantage of the format by including BOTH the Japanese and English opening titles and credits — they are automatically selected depending on your choice of language via an angle switch. Transparent and ingenious. There are two sets of subtitles — one for the English track, and the other is the literal translation of the Japanese (since some liberties were taken in creating the English script) .

Disney was originally going to release “Mononoke Hime” without the modern language track, which created an outrage among anime fans (who, myself included, signed a massive internet petition which eventually turned the tide) . I applaud this decision, as well as the glorious attention to detail. It has made this improbable movie an even better value.

It is difficult to be profound about a movie that has been written about so considerable. Considerable of which has been written is rather definite. Hayao Miyazaki’s Princess Mononoke, although it is an adult oriented film in terms of complexity, it has something for everyone. Princess Mononoke is though-provoking on many levels because noteworthy like other anime features like Armitage III, Ghost in the Shell, and Akira, Princess Mononoke also confronts the deny of technology head on. However, what is current here is that Miyazaki problematizes the duality of man vs. nature really expanding the dilemma to man within nature and calling for a sense of co-operation. Again, While other movies like Armitage III, Ghost in the Shell, and Akira are a shade darker than most, Mononoke is laced with hope and reconstruction.

All the characters are multi-dimensional and not one character is a caricature. A pivotal character is Lady Eboshi. Lady Eboshi’s involvement with Iron Town is not be dismissed as trivial. How is the viewer going to reconcile Lady Eboshi’s agenda and altruism? The beauty and wonder of Princess Mononoke is not so powerful that it provides answers but that it poses deep questions. For this reason alone (and there are many) Princess Mononoke can be classified as a work of art and it will survive the ravages of time.

It’s gargantuan to have all of these Mario Bava titles in one plot. The transfers are really radiant, and a revelation to those of us with memories of grainy 16mm TV prints. “Dim Sunday’s” monochrome atmosphere looks particularly lush in this region. “Waste Baby Slay” is a major upgrade to the crummy, desaturated DVD I have from Image.

But they really SHOULD have included BOTH US and Italian versions of the star attraction, “Dark Sabbbath”. Or at least sever in Karloff’s true whine to the Italian version! Why not re-edit the arrangement it should be? I aloof rushed out to choose this state, but cannot give it five stars due to the pre-release publicity which stated BOTH Gloomy Sabbath versions would be in the box status. Anchor Bay owes all of us an apology or a free DVD of the English version.

Mario Bava was one of the most underrated filmmakers of the 20th century — not to mention the most versatile, turning out giallo thrillers, gothic dismay, Viking action, Hercules, a Western, and even a Swinging Sixties crime caper. Five of these lustrous movies are brought together in the “Mario Bava Collection Volume 1,” including one of his most well-known apprehension movies ever.

The poorly-named “Destroy Baby Demolish” opens when a young woman leaps onto an iron fence. Dr. Eswai (Giacomo Rossi-Stuart) is called in to do an autopsy, with the benefit of aesthetic Monica (Erica Blanc) . He finds a coin in the girl’s heart, and none of the townspeople will reveal him — because if they do, they will suffer a similar fate.

He’s even more annoyed when local sorceress Ruth (Fabienne Dali) begins using her powers to protect a young girl from a childlike specter — petite tiring, aristocrat Melissa Graps. But as the bodies pile up, and Monica is plagued by bizarre nightmares, Eswai must gather Ruth’s succor to attach Monica from the ghost, and an bad baroness.

“Murky Sunday (The Conceal of Satan) ” is a bizarre memoir of vampirism — wrong princess Asa (Barbare Steele) and her servant were executed centuries ago, for serving the devil and all-around nastiness. As usual, she places an putrid curse on the Vadja family, and vows to return one day to gain revenge on them, unbiased before being impaled by the “devil’s conceal,” a spiked screen that kills the wearer.

But in the recent day, two doctors on their plot to a convention accidentally reopen her grave, and awaken her with a plunge of blood. Turns out that Asa isn’t QUITE unimaginative — and now gaining recent power, as she discovers that her distant descendent Katia Vadja is a dull ringer for her. Now she’s trying to bear Katia’s body — can one of the doctors attach her?

“Sunless Sabbath” is actually three stories — “The Telephone,” a Hitchcockian giallo thriller about a woman disquieted by phone calls from an ex-lover. “The Wurdalak” is a twist on typical vampire stories, with Boris Karloff turned into a wurdalak, a vampire who only drinks the blood of loved ones. And in “A Descend of Water,” a nurse steals a ring from the corpse of a medium, and is unsurprisingly panicked by her.

“Knives of the Avenger” is one of Bava’s lesser movies, but shows he could handle unique genre films. A mystery man (Cameron Mitchell) who calls himself Helmut saves young widow Karin (Elissa Pichelli) and her son from some thugs, sent by a local regent who wants to marry the woman (whether she likes it or not), because she is the widow of the behind king.

Helmut stays in the house to protect Karin from the regent, and becomes a sort of mentor to the boy. But Karin doesn’t realize that Helmut (not his genuine name) has a obnoxious past that he’s keeping hidden — he may be the man who raped her many years ago. When Karin’s husband returns, the mystery man saddles up to establish the mother and child.

No, “The Girl Who Knew Too Powerful” was not a sequel to Hitchcock’s movies, but a stylish Hitchcockian giallo. Nora Davis (Leticia Roman) arrives in Rome to care for an ill friend, only to have her expire that evening of a heart attack. As she tries to accumulate wait on, she is mugged, and blearily sees a man pulling a knife out of a woman’s corpse — but of course, nobody believes her.

Nora moves in approach her friend’s house, and does some detecting on her hold — it seems that this cancel follows the pattern of a serial killer who has shy the space for years. They concept they caught the man who did it, but they captured the ghastly man — and now the killer is coming after Nora next.

Mario Bava didn’t need massive budgets or special effects to make his quick-witted movies — fair some solid actors and a haunting backdrop. Crumbling castles, the streets of Rome, sword-and-sandal countryside and misty mountains are all obsolete in these movies, with performances that range from incandescent (Steele) to merely solid (Mitchell) .

In fact, Bava was such a sparkling director that he was able to elevate anything with his cinematic touches — colourful lighting, eerie camerawork, aesthetic employ of light and shadow, gory executions, and even a touch of comedy here and there. Even when the scripts are subpar (”Knives of the Avenger”), he manages to include some nice touches.

“Mario Bava Collection Volume 1″ is a collection of five capable movies, ranging from fantastic to solidly savory. And it’s a worthy demonstration of Bava’s talents, and the kinds of movies he could undertake. Definitely worth getting, especially for scare buffs.

I stumbled across this movie on television recently and was mesmerized by Sharon Stone’s performance. Her looks were down-played for her role of death row inmate and what showed through was brilliant acting and touching vulnerability. Her character, bred from white trash and convicted of a brutal double abolish, brought a current insight into the circumstances surrounding violent crime and the reform found in prison. This movie made me doubt my firm stance in attend of capital punishment (and that’s not easy to do) . Pick Morrow is both sensitive and mighty as the rich kid attorney that finds something to fight for in his defence of this woman. Overall, a enchanting and tragic movie not to be missed, and definitely indispensable among other death row dramas for its gender reversal and the fresh perspective that brings.

OK, I haven’t seen listless man walking, so I’m not as wrathful as most people who believe this is a rip-off of that movie. The movie isn’t lame, it isn’t very powerfull either, but it collected makes a dismal compelling movie. Rick chooses his first case, that of Cindy, who was convicted of a double kill. After she, not having halt relatives but a brother whose also locked up, isn’t intersted of being saved, he thru showing her compassion and caring, she finally realizes that there’s so many things for her to do, she didn’t want to die, but she didn’t want to be locked up in there forever, but after that, she fair doesn’t want to die. So, I liked the movie, I was surprised by the ending, because it seemed that rick had done so distinguished, but really, it objective seemed that plan since you catch so eager in seeing how he tries so hard to keep her. It shows you how some people can really change, and the dilema of having less than 30 days to set someone you’ve gotten so eager with.

The unusual release version of The Empire Strikes Aid (the only reason to lift this residence as most all fans will already have one of the previous Special Edition releases) is relegated to bonus material on disc two. Ouch! But wait, it gets worse.

George Lucas, the champion of pristine presentation in the theatre and at home has released the film that made him a account in the place of the art of technology circa 1993.

Yes, that’s upright. This transfer is from the laserdisc release of ‘93. Even worse, the film is not anamorphic like unbiased about every other fresh day DVD. What does that mean? Well a non-anamorphic DVD has a uncouth visual clarity and the image won’t bear a widescreen TV. To accomplish a movie anamorphic takes very cramped time and money. That Star Wars is not anamorphic shows a disregard for the film that is troubling.

Star Wars fans examine these landmark films to be treated unprejudiced like many other films (Vertigo, Gone with the Wind, Citizen Kane, Snow White, etc.) that have gotten detailed restorations that cleaned up dirt, grime and audio ticks and presented the films in today’s plot of the art. This is the release most fans were dreaming of. A release that showed the film some modicrum of respect.

George, the fan unfavorable you have worked so hard to woo over the years is fed up with your shoddy treatment of these films.

Lucasfilm is marketing this trilogy release on the inclusion of the unaltered versions of the films when in fact this is a shoddy laserdisc transfer on a bonus disc and the buyer is forced to win, yet again, the 2004 versions also. This is essentially retail fraud given that Lucasfilm holds itself as a bastion of home video quality and film preservation – these transfers are 13 years old-fashioned, non-anamorphic and unsuitable. YOU WILL BE PAYING $[...] FOR Primitive LASERDISCS TRANSFERRED TO DVD. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. You will not be able to glance them on a widescreen TV with adequate quality – this is improper and shameless marketing taking advantage of buyers. DO NOT Catch!

Based on the stories of Sholom Aleichem, the movie version of Fiddler on the Roof features Topol as Tevye the Milkman, a awful Jewish husband and father living in pre-revolutionary Russia. His memoir is inevitably tragic, but funny and touching along the draw.

The movie is filled with asides from Tevye, as he reveals his thoughts to the camera. He is forever quoting “the gracious book,” sometimes correctly, sometimes not so correctly.

She leaves her family to follow him in the heartbreaking song, “Far From the Home I Admire.” Chava, the shapely middle daughter, falls in like with Fyedka, a Russian. Tevye forbids this marriage, for he cannot turn from his faith. Chava chooses appreciate over family as shown through ballet, and Tevye has no choice but to count her as tiresome.

Tevye’s record ends as the Jewish community is forced from Anatevka. Even in this hard time, Tevye is faithful that everything will turn out all proper in the destroy.

The music in this movie is absolutely magnificent. You’ll tap your feet to “If I Were a Rich Man,” and “Miracle of Miracles.” You’ll come by tears in your eyes during “Sunrise, Sunset,” and “Far From the Home I Admire.” You’ll laugh at Yente and during the dance at the bar.

“The Hills Have Eyes” is Wes Craven’s long awaited follow up to his first film, the grindhouse fable “The Last House on the Left.” In the latter film, the creator of such scare staples as “A Nightmare on Elm Street” and “Shout” delved deep into the recesses of human cruelty to philosophize the fable of two young women abducted, tortured, and killed by a petite gang of escaped convicts. Through a twist of fate, the parents of one of these girls meet up with her killers and true their gain sign of bad revenge. “The Last House on the Left,” although not incredibly gory in its theatrical nick, is a nauseating, seedy tiny nightmare that received an astounding amount of unpleasant press even as it raked in money at the few places willing to note the movie. Craven’s subsequent career virtually assured that his early work would receive the DVD treatment. What’s surprising is how comprehensive a treatment “Last House” and “Hills” received. “The Hills Have Eyes” offers up a plethora of though-provoking and informative extras on two discs. There is so distinguished material of interest on these DVDs that it’s easy to lose scrutinize of the film itself.

There is nothing more innocent and heartwarming than a family taking a lope across the country. In the case of retired cop Substantial Bob Carter (Russ Grieve), he’s taking his extended family out into the desert in search of a silver mine. His wife Ethel (Virginia Vincent) is along for the rush, as are daughter Brenda (Susan Lanier) and son Bobby (Robert Houston) . Also tagging along in a mobile home is Carter’s married daughter Lynne (Dee Wallace-Stone), her husband Doug (Martin Speer), and their infant child. Rounding out the list are the two family dogs, one of whom will play an essential role in the nightmare to near. Carter and his clan close off at a decrepit gas place race by Fred (John Steadman) in order to ask for directions. Fred issues dire warnings to Carter about heading out into the desert. The cop, undeterred by such nonsense, proceeds to drive his entire family into the middle of an Air Force bombing range. The Carter clan should have listened to crotchety ancient Fred. It turns out that a family of cannibals lives out in the mountains approach where the car crashed, a family headed by Fred’s only son Jupiter (James Whitworth) . “The Hills Have Eyes” is really a film about civilization versus barbarism. It’s also a film based loosely on the Sawney Bean family, a genuine life pack of inbred cannibals who preyed on travelers over in the English isles three centuries ago. The film relies heavily on shock value rather than over the top gore, an near that generally works even if it is a bit disappointing (I’d like to ogle more cannibal action, personally) . And there is nothing more repulsive than the frightful visage of Michael Berryman to send an audience over the edge. If I had to map a portray of what I opinion an inbred cannibal killer looked like, it would probably resemble Berryman. His misshapen bald head, buggy eyes, and malformed mouth add grand to the impact of the movie. He is, in fact, almost as hideous as some of the performances in the film. Most of the actors do a edifying job with their roles, but Virginia Vincent goes needlessly over the top as matriarch Ethel. Talk about laying the ham on thick! Shelley Winters has nothing on this lady! I’m surprised Ethel and her relatives had to achieve up with cannibals at all, frankly. You would judge the planes saw Sizable Bob go off the road and would pronounce the salubrious authorities. You would also deem that a pack of cannibals couldn’t survive for long on a military bombing range. Oh well, best not to ask too many questions.

The supplements on the DVD are quite generous. The best feature is the commentary track with Wes Craven and producer Peter Locke. They entertain themselves endlessly by poking fun at the unfolding hijinks. After listening to their comments, check out the interviews with cast and crew, the Craven career retrospective, and the alternate ending. Every dismay film fan will want to check this DVD out. Even if you’ve seen the movie before, the extras are top-notch enough to merit another witness.

The remake is a joke compared to Craven’s astonishing 1977 new.

Young kids have no clue what a favorable alarm movie is all about and that’s why remakes actually effect money(actually most of them lose money) I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, anyone that knows anything about dread movies realizes there is considerable more to it than shapely people on hide, loud bangs and CG effects.

The first thing that struck me about this film was the fact that it wasn’t comic. Definite it had its moments like other dramas, but being billed as a comedy, this was surprising. The second is that most children watching this film will be bored and confused with the subject matter. Although it is a well-kept family movie, the topics covered (i.e. euthanasia, discrimination, immortality, etc.) are most definitely adult.

I am pleased it wasn’t a simple comedy, as within I found a touching, human tale about a robot’s search for meaning and humanity. It is a grand film, with spacious acting by both Robin Williams and Sam Neil. This was combined with a titanic rep and extraordinary visuals. It truly is a astronomical film.

In conclusion, if you’re looking for the comedy from the trailer gawk elsewhere. If you’re looking for a family movie which your younger kids can derive into, stare elsewhere. This is a opinion provoking and touching drama which contemplates very complex issues in a highly enthralling manner. I loved this film and highly recommend it.

The DVD Menus:
This is one of the cleanest DVDs I’ve seen in a while, no excess junk on any of the menus. I’m a firm believer in the whole “less is more” plan, and this DVD adheres wonderfully to that. From the exiguous I set aside the disc in, I found my self hunting through the menus so I could listen to the music clips that were on each one.

The Music:
From the music on the title conceal, you will be bent on the perfectly fitting piano get selected for this legend. Throughout the entire film the music changes to encourage with the emotional direction of the sage. Even the battle theme managed to turn a soft piano song into a believable fight song. I found myself scouring the internet trying to catch the music for download.

The animation:
The animation on this DVD is mostly computer generated. The character designs observe a minute choppy compared to the 3D rendered mechs, buildings, and spacecraft scattered throughout the feature. Quiet, they don’t seek out of residence at all. A lot of complaints I’ve seen were about the lack of genuine animation and the excessive expend of calm images. There is calm a lot of animation, and the aloof images in no contrivance occupy away from the film. In most cases, I acquire it fair adds to the chronicle, it also gives you time to sit and leer at the awesome exhaust of color. If only the valid world looked as nice as this.

This is one of the few Animes where I can honestly say that the English voices are Arrangement better than the modern Japanese tracks.
